Cargo Bike Battery and Charging

Mubea eCargo · Bike Safety Guides

Look after the battery and use the approved charging process.

Each morning: fit and lock the batteries

  1. Check the charge. Always ensure the batteries are charged before leaving.
  2. Fit each battery each morning. Place the batteries into their slots with the handles facing outwards.
  3. Lock them in place. Always ensure each battery is locked so it cannot be removed without the key. Do not leave with an unsecured battery.

Complete your daily checks in ClearQuote before departure. If you notice damage or are unsure about a battery or any safety concern, keep the bike parked and notify management immediately so they can assess it.

At the end of your day: return, switch off, remove and charge

The bike must be returned to the unit or site and remains on site overnight.

  1. When returning the bike to the unit or site, park safely and hold the power button until the bike is fully switched off.
  2. Unlock each battery and remove it from the bike using the process demonstrated in your induction.
  3. Put the removed batteries on charge in the designated charging area, using the approved chargers and current site charging procedure.
  4. Put your issued devices on charge.
  5. Return the keys to the locker before leaving.

This is the daily routine: batteries are locked into the bike when fitted in the morning, then unlocked and removed for charging when you return at the end of the day. Report any fault or damaged equipment to management.

Use the correct equipment

Follow the current instructions for your Mubea battery system. Use only the battery and charger approved for that system. Do not modify connectors, use damaged leads or improvise a charger.

At the charging area

  • Use your designated fleet charging location and procedure.
  • Keep exits clear and equipment away from combustible materials.
  • Do not cover the battery or charger.
  • Check for damage and moisture before connecting.
  • Follow the specified charging supervision and disconnection instructions.

Warning signs

Stop using equipment with unusual heat, swelling, leaks, damage, smell or noise. Report it immediately and keep people away. Do not handle a smoking battery or try to open the pack.

Smoke or fire: raise the alarm, move away and call 999.

Do not try to recover the bike or parcels. Follow site evacuation instructions.

On route

Monitor remaining charge and arrange help before the bike becomes stranded. Stop safely before dealing with the battery. If a battery needs swapping or removing and you are unsure of the process, contact your manager before handling it.
